Day 5 and 6 – Slot Canyons and Amangiri

Wow. No words can do the experience justice. I believe Wow has overtaken every word in every language around here. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a more unique experience. Happy Birthday, the big 50. Our guides on our experiences have been family names, Steven (No ph, sorry) and Mark. I always feel like I get the best guides when booking these things, or at least the ones that match our styles perfectly.

After leaving Zion National Park, with a Deep Creek Coffee in hand, of course, our route went back through the park, that allowed us to get some final shots from up above. Destination, Amangiri, outside Page, Arizona but just across the border in Utah. This will be a long update, we celebrate an incredible birthday/anniversary, and one year alcohol free. A lot going on this week.

We arrived well before we could check in to make our 3 slot canyon tour. Owl Canyon, Rattlesnake Canyon, and the famous Upper Antelope Canyon. We got a first hand look at what wind and water can do. Keeping with the theme of “Wow”, these canyons really don’t look real and hard to believe the force that water and wind have to make these beautiful walls and walkways. Again, we have hundreds of photos of this tour, and it is impossible to pick out a handful, but here are a few.

Is this real life? No, it’s not but we don’t have to wake up just yet.

Day 6, sticking with surprises and Elizabeth finding out as we go, it starts to get tricky now. Some things need to be put out there to make sure we want to do these things. Via Ferrata. Italian for “Iron Path”. I believe it originated in Italy to help troops get through the Dolomites. Anyway, it is a fixed route combination rock climbing. Complete with steel cabling and rungs, it allows us to climb rock walls and like terrain, while having carabiners that we transfer to the next cables, over and over, until you reach the top. Hesitant at first, Elizabeth’s concerns quickly turned to excitement. We celebrated up top a huge mesa that overlooked the gorgeous desert and mesa’s as far as you can see. After a nice hike across a portion of the property, we began our adventure to celebrate 50 trips around the sun with adventure on our mind.
